Real Estate Investing: Why Do You Want to Do It?

There are all types of books out there that cover WHY real estate investing is a good idea. They cover topics like tax advantages, calculating rates of returns, the future value of money, and so on. I’m not going to bore you with those topics. (You should spend sometime thinking about those things, but I want to talk to you about YOU.) Why do YOU want to invest in real estate? That’s all that really matters anyway. If I could prove to the world that real estate was the best way to become wealthy, everyone would want in on it. The point is that ANYONE can invest in real estate, but why do YOU want to do it.What attracts you to real estate? Do you like the idea of rehabbing a run-down house? Do you like getting your hands dirty? Do you like slinging a paint brush? Is that investing?What attracts you? Do you like the idea of getting a great deal on a piece of property and turning around to make $10,000 to $20,000 in just a few days time? Does the thrill of the deal excite you? Is that investing?Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. I want you to have a conversation with yourself about your deepest desires and goals. Just what is it that you think real estate investing will do for you?Are you looking for financial independence? Do you want to be your own boss? Do you want to help less fortunate families have a good roof over their heads while living in an affordable house? Do you want financial freedom? Do you want enough money to travel the world? Do you want enough money to build a hospital?Here’s a little exercise for you. Think for a few minutes about the statement below and then complete the idea.I want to invest in real estate because……What did you write? (You did write something, right?) Is it something you can be proud of? Is it a worthy outcome? Is it something that you can be excited about?If you answered these questions positively then you have the answer to why YOU should invest in real estate.
